Iran on Spotlight

Iran’s retaliation or as it calls it self-defense to Israel attack to Iranian embassy in Damascus a month ago, is emblematic of its growing regional power in the Middle East. After the drone and missiles attack which didn’t cause much harm, it warned of further attacks.

The militant confidence of Iran could be seen as international pressure being put forth on Israel after humanitarian aid is hampered in Gaza occupied region and the loss of more than 37,000 lives to date to no end to this belligerence in sight.

Iran has been considered a rogue state in the past but with Israel’s barbaric outings, its supposed cruelties did not receive condemnations of a monumental nature from the region and the international allies of Israel. The condemnations are peanuts, if one may wish to describe them. But why would they not be amidst the horror at display since 7 October.

Calls for complete ceasefire from all around the world are being made with social media playing a vital role in reporting the atrocities, the turmoil, the loss of sons and daughters, of mothers and fathers, and of entire families.

Israel will go on with its war. While we witness the great loss of humanity panning in front of us.

Back to Iran and its ‘self-defense’, comparatively low-scale but violence indeed. Some may argue it is a well-planned measure to show Iran’s military worth, especially as it happens to be a staunch rival of Israel in the region.

Whatever it maybe, when heinous crimes are committed, entire households are razed, it only makes sense to make calls for peace.
